If you have a big enough garden and you plan to put up a Koi pond in the center of it, or in a part where you can relax perfectly, then you might want to start by learning a few requirements and the things that you need to have or consider in adding Koi fish ponds.
Here are some things that you may have to consider before even beginning to build your Koi fish ponds.
1. Depth requirements. Although you are able to build a Koi fish pond at 4 feet deep, remember that there might be preys around the pond that will wipe out your Koi fish population. Instead of digging a shallow one, be sure you have a depth greater than 4 feet for your pond. You can extend this deeper up 8 ft to also protect your own fishes from very warm temperatures within the surface.
2. Koi fishes can grow big and can multiply faster and a tiny Koi pond might not be enough later to keep even 10 full sized fishes. Remember that Koi fishes have lots of colors and you might want to collect each one of them or add more variety of colors to the pond. With a very limited pond size, you could also have very limited number of fishes for it. Therefore, if you don't want to start yet again and build a bigger pond, try to make a bigger pond straight away.
3. Safety of your Koi fishes. Protect your own fishes from preys as well as from harsh environmental elements. To be able to provide a good shelter for the Koi fishes, make sure there are also safe from chicken preys, raccoons and obviously from other harsh environmental factors like direct sunlight. Add bird nets if you possibly can. Also add lilies and other plants around the pond to include a little shade for the Koi. Also make sure they are safe in the h2o by avoiding chlorinated water in the pond and monitoring the actual acidity or pH degree of the pond every now and then.
4. The essential needs. Of course, feeding is important thus make sure you feed them right in the right time and correct amount. Overfeeding is not good for your Koi, so make sure you are giving them sufficient. Clean about a tenth from the pond water each week to keep clean water as properly. Provide filtration and aeration to their pond as well. You may even need a good sized water pump on their behalf, so make sure these people get what they need to allow them to grow healthily.
